SEDATION / SLEEP DENTISTRY

Conscious sedation, also known as sleep dentistry is a fantastic feature of modern dentistry. For years anxious, nervous or previously traumatised patients found it almost impossible to visit the dentist regularly, until it was usually too late.

How does sedation dentistry work

When faced with something we are afraid of our anxiety levels rise and for some people this can prevent them from seeking the dental treatment they need. Sedation can be used to help relax a patient to a point of being drowsy and often unaware of the treatment going on.

Is it safe?

Conscious Sedation is extremely safe. It has been researched extensively and found to be as safe as taking a sleeping pill once in a while. Although you become drowsy and unaware of the treatment you can still co-operate with the dentist .
The effects of sedation medication take just a short time to wear off. Following a short sleep most patients report that they feel back to normal and cannot remember anything about the treatment. Because these methods of sedation do not involve a general anaesthetic, they are very safe, and many patients have found them invaluable in enabling them to have treatment they could not otherwise consider. The practice has been using these techniques safely and effectively for 8 years

Will I feel any pain?
Sedation dramatically reduced the body's ability to be tensed, or expectancy of a painful sensation. Therefore, the patient is free to just relax and enjoy the visit.
