Bridges
Missing teeth can be replaced by bridges which
are fixed onto remaining teeth either side of the space. The supporting teeth
are prepared and usually a temporary bridge is fitted while the permanent bridge
is made by a specialist technician. The bridge is precision made with a precious
metal base. Porcelain is then bonded onto the base to match the colour of your
natural teeth. Bridges need to be looked after with care to ensure that they
last for many years. Our hygienists will spend time with you explaining, and
showing you how to care for your bridge.
Crowns
Teeth which have been broken, weakened by decay or have a very large filling may need
to be restored by crowning (sometimes also called caps). Crowns are made from a
variety of different materials and these are constantly being upgraded. Many
crowns are made with a precious metal core onto which porcelain is bonded to
match exactly the colour of the adjacent teeth. Other materials such as all gold
or all porcelain are also used. A crown will require at least two appointments.
At the first appointment the tooth is prepared and an impression taken of the
prepared tooth. A temporary crown will be fitted while the permanent crown is
made to the dentist's specific instructions. The second appointment will usually
involve removing the temporary crown and fitting the permanent crown.
Tooth
Whitening
Using an at home dentist supervised technique teeth can be whitened in 2-4
weeks. whitening treatment resulted in an average improvement of 3+ shades
whiter!
Cosmetic dentistry techniques have changed immeasurably in recent years.
Dentists can now dramatically improve crooked, uneven or discoloured teeth
easily using ultra-thin porcelain veneers.
Veneers
Veneers are custom-made by a specialist technician,
who works closely with the dentist to ensure that your desired end result is
achieved.
This process usually involves two visits to the dentist. At the first
appointment very little needs to be done to the tooth and an impression is
taken.
The second stage involves bonding the veneer to the tooth . With care veneers
can last for many years
My
Gums Bleed
When I brush my teeth they occasionally bleed. Does this matter? Any bleeding
from the gums is usually a sign that there is some gum infection.
This means they are NOT healthy.
So if my gums don't bleed when I brush them, does
that mean that every thing is O.K.?
Not necessarily, there could be areas where the gums are unhealthy in places
that your toothbrush cannot reach, such as in between the teeth.
My gums don't hurt so does it matter if they are a bit unhealthy or inflamed
as you put it?
Gum disease very rarely hurts, even in the more advanced stages. Therefore it is
important to have a detailed "gum check" by your dentist or hygienist.
What will the dentist or hygienist look for when they check my gums?
They will check the gum around every tooth to see if there has been any advanced
gum disease. They will also record all the areas where there is any pocketing
